The Crucifixion :
Crucifixion is the manner of execution by which Christ suffered, died and effected human being's redemption.  It was a method used by the Egyptians, Romans, and others, and embodied a degree of ridicule and mockery in the procedure.  The condemned were either nailed or bound to the cross, remaining there until dead.  In the case of Christ, He was nailed to the cross, both hands and feet.  Two convicts were crucified at the same time.  As Jesus hung from the cross the four soldiers who made up the crucifixion divided his garments amongst themselves.  A huge crowd watched, including the Chief of Priests and the Elders of the people who mocked Christ.   Mary, Jesus' mother, stood near the cross with her sister-in-law, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.  When Jesus saw his mother standing close to his disciple John he said, "behold thy mother."  From that time on John took Mary into his home.  Despite his anguish and intense pain from the cross, Jesus asked God to forgive the people for crucifying him.  "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."
